How to Optimize Website Images: Tips and Tricks

Product images are an essential part of your online store. They help you sell more products, gain trust from customers, and even boost your conversion rate. But did you know that there are a lot of factors that can affect the quality and performance of your photos? In this blog post we’ll show you how to optimize your website images so they look the best on every screen size — from desktop monitors all the way down to mobile phones.

Image size

Image size is important for performance, SEO, visual impact, and more. First impressions matter as much online as they do in real life. Visitors don’t want to see images that are too small or too large – it can distract them from the content you’re trying to present.

When it comes to image sizes, there are two main factors: the dimensions of your product images relative to other elements on your page; and how large (or small) each individual image appears when viewed on different devices with different screen sizes. With the implemented image compression we guarantee that your website will load faster and the images will look great.

File format

The file format you choose will determine how your images look. JPEG is a good file format for product images because it compresses well, allowing you to keep the image quality high while keeping it small enough to load quickly. To make sure that your JPEGs are optimized, choose the highest quality setting in your photo editing software. Keep in mind that our system will compress the images you upload to 1MB, but this will not affect their quality.

JPEGs and PNGs are both lossless image formats that provide high-quality results and can be used interchangeably with no significant loss of quality for most uses (especially if you’re using them on the web). While GIFs can also be used as an alternative, they aren’t recommended because they aren’t very versatile or efficient at preserving quality over time—plus they have some limitations when it comes to transparency and anti-aliasing.

SVG files have become more popular lately due to their support in modern browsers and devices including mobile phones, and websites like Wikipedia use them exclusively—but if you don’t need all those features then stick with a regular image type instead!

Proportions

The most important aspect of product photography is proportions. Proportions are the relationship between the height, width, and depth of an object. If you want to make sure your images are optimized for online sales, you need to keep these proportions consistent throughout your photos.

If you crop a product photo, make sure that it still has the same proportions as the original image. A common mistake many photographers make is cropping out part of their background when they edit their photos. This could cause problems later on when someone tries to sell this product on their website or social media account without having access to that background information!

Properly cropped images will have consistent proportionality throughout all sides (top/bottom/left/right).

Image background

To get the best results, you’ll want your product images to be on a white or light gray background. Black backgrounds are too harsh and can cause eyes to strain while viewing them. Busy backgrounds can also be too distracting, so make sure there are no patterns in your photos that might draw the eye away from what’s important: the product itself!

When choosing a background for your website, you should also consider the theme mode you chose for your site. If you chose dark mode, then a lighter color such as white or light gray will be best. If you chose light mode, then a darker color such as black or dark gray will be best. While there are many other factors to consider when choosing a background for your site, it is important to keep in mind that the background should complement your content and not distract from it.

Product photography tips

  • Use a tripod: Tripods are an effective way to take crisp and clear images. They allow you to position the camera at any angle and keep it steady for a long period of time.

  • Use a light tent: A light tent helps you avoid shadows, which can be a problem when taking product images. It also provides even lighting throughout the image, which makes it easier to see what’s in the frame and adjust accordingly.

  • Use good equipment: A quality camera with high resolution is essential for capturing every detail of your product or merchandise. You will want a lens that has low distortion while maintaining clarity at all focal lengths; this will help ensure that your products look professional when they’re photographed from multiple angles without losing their sharpness or detail.

If you’re not a photographer, it can be hard to know where to find the perfect stock image for your website. Luckily, there are plenty of options for getting high-quality photos without having to pay for them. Here’s a list of some great resources: iStockPhoto, Unsplash, Pixabay, and Pexels.

PosFox best practices

We’ve got a few recommendations for you to keep in mind when choosing images for your site on PosFox.

  • Make sure the product images are at least 500×500 pixels in size
  • Images for module Banners are at least 600х500
  • And images for module Slider have at least the following proportions 1200х800

These are considered the minimum requirements to render images in as high readable quality as possible. You can upload images in whatever height/width dimensions you like, but we strongly recommend the given sizes as a bare minimum, to prevent image blurring. Keep in mind that you can also change the aspect ratio of the images you upload.

In Conclusion

Image optimization is an important part of your product photography business, and it doesn’t have to be difficult. The tips in this blog post will help you get started with perfecting your product images so they can be displayed on any device or browser with no loss in quality—even if it’s just a smartphone!
