All about discounts and how to set them properly

You created the perfect store and now want to boost your sales a little bit either for Black Friday or start a Christmas sale. What better way to do this than to add a discount to products, or why not to a whole category of products. Within the next lines, we’ll be explaining to you what kind of discounts your webshop has and how they interact with each other. There are five kinds of discounts:

  1. Flat discount on a product
  2. Percent discount on a product
  3. Coupon discount
Flat Discount on a product

The flat discount on the product is the main discount. It overrides all other discounts if the product has any. It decreases the price of the product with the amount entered in the discount field. You can add the start and end date of the discount if you want to. If no dates are set the product will be discounted until you decide to remove the discount.

Percent Discount on a product

The percent discount on the product is the second in command. It will decrease the price of the product with the percent you entered in the discount percentage field. You can add the start and end date of the discount if you want to. If no dates are set the product will be discounted until you decide to remove the discount. Keep in mind that if you enter a flat and percent discount flat discount will override the percentage one.

Coupon discount

Coupon discounts can be applied to all products no matter if they are discounted or not. Once the option “Apply to discounted products” is marked the coupon can be applied to those otherwise customers will be able to apply coupons only to not discounted products. Coupons can decrease products’ prices by a fixed amount or by a percent. They have a start and end date and can be created for categories or for separate products.
